This is the last of my plague doctor/herbal medicine series. This doctor is surrounded by onions; which were used as medicine during the Black Plague. At the time, doctors thought the pungent smell of an onion would keep away the stench of disease. They believed the bad smells of decaying and sick bodies spread the plague, but onions did do some good! They kept away the fleas as well that we now know were the real spreaders of plague.
